How this rising sign calculation works
Four short steps connect the details on a birth record to a position on the zodiac. The astronomical calculation is separate from the symbolic interpretation.
-
01
Enter your birth date
Give the month, day and year you were born.
-
02
Enter your exact birth time
Use the local clock time from your birth certificate. The ascendant changes continuously and can cross a sign boundary within minutes, so the recorded minutes matter.
-
03
Choose your birth place
Start typing the city and pick it from the list. That supplies the coordinates and the historical time zone and daylight saving rules that applied on the date.
-
04
Read your ascendant
The result gives the sign, the exact degree, and how many minutes you sat from each edge of it — so you can see whether a rounded birth time could have changed the answer.
Astronomy first, interpretation second.
Dates, coordinates, time-zone conversion, longitudes, and horizon angles are calculated values. The meanings attached to signs and houses come from astrological tradition, and we label which is which on every page.
